Athens is the county seat of McMinn County. With a small local airport and convenient location off of Interstate 75,  it is a common throughway for travelers. Locals, guests, and visitors can discover what gives this charismatic town the motto “The Friendly City”.

AFC Urgent Care has dedicated its resources to serving  tourists, visitors and locals from Athens, Etowah, Niota and Englewood. We  provide fast, affordable and reliable care for your family, seven days a week. Located on Congress Parkway off of Lee Highway, AFC Urgent Care is just a short drive away for the citizens of McMinn County.  If you know where McMinn County High School is located, you can easily find us, we’re just a 4 minute walk from there and on the same side of Congress Parkway.

You don’t have to look far to discover Athen’s rich history. Since its beginning in 1822, Athens has evolved from a farming community to an industrial town with a favorable economy. Although it was named after the city of Greece, the town has maintained a reputation of small-town southern charm. With a quaint downtown, historic houses, and multiple museums, Athens honors times  past while streamlining into the future.

At the Living Heritage Museum, visitors experience exhibits with local artifacts from the mid 1700’s to the 1940’s. The Swift Museum in the McMinn County Airport will be sure to soar above your expectations with multiple Swift aircrafts on display.

Veterans Memorial Park honors the men and women who have bravely served our country. The park has monuments representing the five branches of service and a plaza made up of bricks, each purchased in honor of a veteran.

While planning the perfect day trip in Athens, don’t forget to plan for the unexpected. All it takes is a surprise injury or illness to send the day to a halt. Instead of spending hours waiting in the ER or scheduling an appointment with your physician days out, stop by AFC Urgent Care. Our experienced doctors, nurses, and X-ray technicians can get you quality care at a fraction of average ER cost.

Experienced and amateur hikers alike with fall in love with the surrounding area lakes, forests, and mountains of  the area. For kid-friendly hiking, try a walk on Eureka Trail, with over 7 miles of scenic path connecting Athens to neighboring Englewood. For backpacking and camping, the majestic Cherokee National Forest and the Great Smoky Mountains are the perfect scenic backdrop.

Take the family to 160-acre Athens Regional Park; featuring hiking trails, stocked ponds, picnic pavilions and the largest playground in the area. For the water-lover, the nearby Ocoee and Hiwassee are ideal rivers for rafting, swimming and fishing.

When playing outdoors, it’s important to be prepared. Always bring plenty of  water, sunscreen and bug spray. But if an accident occurs, know that AFC Urgent Care has you covered seven days a week, no appointment needed. A bite, sprain, broken bone or wound can happen anytime on the trail. For your non life-threatening issues, let our experienced staff take care of you and get you on the road to recovery.

Athens features many Tennessee treasures. The first railroad constructed in Tennessee began 1 ½ miles south of the center of town. This railroad connected Dalton, Georgia to Knoxville with 98 miles of rail line in 1851. For a nostalgic evening, visit The Swingin’ Midway Drive-In. Constructed in the 1960’s, Swingin’ Midway is one of only thirteen remaining Drive-ins in Tennessee.

However, Athens offers more than entertainment, it is home to various educational institutions. Tennessee Wesleyan University is a private Methodist university that offers a liberal arts education to men and women. The Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) offers technical and occupational training to  Athens, McMinn County and the greater surrounding area.

We know that safety is always a priority for you and your family. Whether you are a resident or just visting the  Athens TN area, know that AFC Urgent Care has you covered  with short wait times and exceptional service.
